Bad Colons and Gate River 15k recap

Right now I'm chillin' on the couch as Evan takes a snack break from school. We opted to skip on co-op today, as we just needed a day to catch up on yet another day of missed school.

Monday ended up being pretty eventful, as Dad's colon ruptured in the hospital Sunday night as a result of a bad diverticulitis attack, so I went over to LRMC Monday to be w/ Mom during Dad's ER surgery. All went well and we finally got to see him around 3:45. He had tubes running everywhere and looked pretty yellow. Not a fun sight seeing your Dad look like that at all. The were able to get him on a pain pump of narcotic pain meds, thankfully, so that was helping him immensely. In the 2 days since, he's been up and walking around a few x a day and his nose/throat tubes and catheter are all out. He'll hafta have surgery to reconnect everything in 3-6 months when everything in the ole colon calms down. Man, he's sure had a rough few months. I was grateful a good friend volunteered to watch the boys for me all day Monday so I could be free to go stay w/ my Mom w/out having to worry about them running about and being bored all day in a hospital. Took a huge burden off, I tell you.

I've been feeling a lot better these days. I still have 1 or 2x a week where I'll hafta pop a Zofran for extreme nausea, but I've been playing catchup on getting the house clean and feeling more upbeat when it comes to school...not so hardcore and moody from feeling like absolute junk. I'm grateful for that. My stomach seems to be way bigger than I want it to be right now, but, what can I say? I'm really making an effort to eat good, but I feel like I'm hungry ALL.THE.TIME, and my nausea is worse when I don't eat. So far, scale's only gone up 2 lbs, so, overall, not too shabby!! :)

Mom and I before the race, freezing our cahoonas off. Luckily, it warmed up real nice during the race and was the perfect temp. Even got a sunburn!!?? What the?

Mom and I after the race at the Expo!!! Finishers baby!!!

Post race lack of oxygen craziness!

Sported this sign on my back for the race. Think it really saved me from getting so trampled. Several ppl congratulated me and said funny things. It was great. The girl to my right in the pic stopped and talked to me. She was also 5 months along and had just finished the race too! Talk about some inspiring people!
Mom and I busted out the Gate River Run 15k in Jax last Saturday, and it went awesome for both of us!! We both had the absolute best time and were impressed by how well the whole thing was organized. Almost 16,000 ppl finished the 15k, and it was like running in a massive crowd of ppl for the whole 9.44 miles (according to my Garmin:). It also felt like a huge block party, w/ whole neighborhoods out cheering us on in their front yards, some handing out food/drinks/beer, ringing cowbells, holding up hilarious signs and foam fingers, live bands or music at every mile marker!! It was such a riot! I didn't push myself but kept a good 11 min pace. I did hafta stop 1x to pee at mile 4.85, so that slowed my time by a good 3-4 minutes, but I was really pleased w/ my time. I had 150 as a goal, and I finished at 1:46:26. Mom finished in 2:27 minutes and change, and beat her goal as well!!! The expo after had lots of food--smoothies, choc milk, which was awesome, muffins, oranges and bananas and water. Mom missed out on some of that as ppl were going thru the food like hotcakes. Saw the top 10 elite men/women get their awards, with times like 43 and 49 minutes. Just insanity! Overall, most fun race I've ever been a part of. Wish I could do that weekly, because I would. We stopped and had a nice big lunch at Cracker Barrel after and talked all about the race. It was such a great weekend away. I love that we can share such a cool memory together, and hope we'll have many more in the years to come.

Well, best go finish school.
