Almost Over:(

Well today was our next to last day at the cabin. Man does time ever fly when we're up here in God's beauty!! we have had a really great time, and i'm dreading yet sorta looking forward to getting home. A new chapter will start in our life when we get home and i'm ready yet nervous about that...talking about schooling E and etc.
Got up this morning and decided to go w/ Randall and the whole gang to meet up w/ the realtor to look at the house on Pleasant Gap Road. R'd been looking at foreclosures online etc to see what things looked like in the market up here, since Mom and Dad are talking about retiring and moving up here in 3-5 yrs. We'd always planned on them living in our cabin and building another one on the lot next to theirs, since we already own that property. But, w/ the prices of building a cabin and the price of homes right now, we'd be crazy to not at least look at our options and see what's out there. Just "dreaming" really, but so fun. We found an older home (built in 99 but looks much older architecturally) on Pleasant Gap Road, which is the main road that you turn on to go out to the cabin, paved and nice homes there for the most part. The house has 4 bedrooms/3 baths, which includes a finished basement which is essentially an apt w/ a full/small kitchen, bath and laundry area. has its own seperate entrance even. The house has 1 big deck off the main floor and a smaller deck off an upstairs bedroom. there's a ton of trees in the way, but a great view to be had and tree trimming is possible since the trees would be on our land. we walked thru the house and i could picture how it would look if we did a good amt of work to it. basically needs new paint, roof, new AC (someone took the whole unit), wood work/trim work done bc of water damage, deck reinforcement done, and a ton of cosmetic stuff like paint, new lighting and basically an updated kitchen. and baths. hhaa. just a little bit. but it has great bones and the view we want, room for the kids and LOTS of windows--even windows in the basement!! they've lowered the price to 79.9K which is incredible for the house. i think it's valued at 140k!! we looked at 2 other houses. the 2nd was a crap shoot and needed to almost be torn down. it was terrible and tiny, and just disgusting inside. looked like maybe either a trashy family or renters had just run the place completely ragged. And the 3rd house was basically move in ready in a great subdivision w/ multiple ammenities, but had a terribly steep/dangerous driveway, no view, and tiny bedrooms. the basement was finished but had no windows and i just couldn't picture myself there.
It was really fun to get out and look and dream and prob'ly nothing will happen with all this info we have , but it's been good to get out and look. just thinking and planning for the future. we will prob'ly eventually move up here and R will run his biz from up here. we really wanna be close to Mom and Dad and we just love this area. Just the mountains and trees and outdoor things to do. the ppl are so nice here too. Just more our speed. The biggest thing i'll have a hard time is leaving our home in FL which i really love, and the few close friends i've made there. I don't feel like a ton else is really holding me to FL...
I'm just rambling. but it was a fun day to just drive around and look in houses and kinda dream about what we wanted. We went into town and met a couple of the girls who work at Blue Sky Cabin Rentals, who rent out our cabin for us. they were so nice and professional and had a really nice setup going on. Mom and Aunt Vicki had met them last summer when they'd come to evaluate our cabin and tell us what we needed to do to get it on their rental program. they've rented it out about triple the amt of the other 2 companies we'd had, so we've been so grateful for them!!! i need to sit down and write them a thank you note when i get home. Then we went to a new local homemade icecream place and it was really good. they had this bar area for the kids to sit at and the table was all chalkboard paint so they drew w/ chalk the whole time they were there. the icecream was UNreal. the boys had b'day cake icecream w/ sprinkles and it seriously tasted like a b'day cake w/ buttercream frosting.
well tomorrow's our last day here. hafta do a few things to get ready for checking out. it's nice we pay for them to clean it now...well worth it. but, knowing Mom, she'll prob'ly clean the whole house anywho lol. i'm tired. rented "limitless" and "country strong" but am falling out.
Oh, forgot the coolest part of our day. Stopped by our neighbor's house on the way home from running about. he lives not too far down the mtn and has a small farm w/ chickens, a cow and a donkey, and a smallish garden. He had his dozen eggs $1 sign out, so we stopped to buy 3 dozen before going home. can't beat that price for good organic eggs. we stopped and talked for quite awhile about the big tornado that came thru in April. we were up here about a week after it had hit and it was unnerving. we'd seen that it had just missed his house and that his massive trademark tree in his front yard was laying on it's size w/ the massive rootball outta the ground sticking up in the air. he said it was around 9:30 and he was in bed asleep but his wife heard it and freaked out, ran upstairs and woke him up, asking what in the world is that??!! he said it sounded like a jet engine. He got so scared he got dissoriented, but they made it downstairs to the basement and the garage doors were rattling like they were gonna suck right off. he said the house itself was even shaking. He said he's not one that scares easily but he was really scared. It was just wild hearing about that. It definitely wasn't a coincidence that it missed their house. We talked for a bit more about gardening etc and he pulled 3 large tomatoes, 2 or 3 medium and a handful of cherry tomatoes off the vines and handed them to us. R tried to give him a few more bucks but he guffawed and just waved his hand, so how generous was that. i know we would be good friends if we were up here permanently:) for that price, i could just let HIM raise the chickens. not so sure i'll ever be up for the chickens or not. i've never really been into birds too much;) but he said if we did move up, he'd gladly give me 4 or 5:) reminded me of Liz:)
Well, gotta go for now. i'm falling out.
