Well, just got home from St Auggie at around 5ish. We left Friday about 2ish and got there in time to set up before it got dark. We went across the street to the "Reef" restaurant, which was right on the beach, so had gorgeous views of the waves crashing against the sand the whole meal. It was a little fancy, and here we were w/ our casual attire and dirty flip flop feet:) GOOD food, albeit a tad expen$ive.
I wasn't really "feeling" the trip, as it was a rough time of month for me, and I was in pretty massive pain the entire time. So my attitude wasn't great either. Worst mood i'd been in in months, I'd say. I tried to make the best of the trip, but really just felt like a bump on a log w/ no energy about to cry. Peppered in there were some really cool moments and such joy watching the boys have such a good time. They were content to dig in the sand around our campsite and ride their bikes to and fro around the campgrounds. It was a beautiful place, right across the street from the beach. The whole place looked like it was cut out of the beach underbrush, so there were gnarled trees and palmettos all around, and the rows of roads had a tree canopy overhead. So beautiful. Each campsite felt like it's own little private place, bc you couldn't really see the neighbors right next to you.
We parked across the road at the beach the 1st day and boy was the water crazy. White capping all the way out and the waves just crashing. It wasn't a great kid beach, as the sand went down at a steep angle and water had carved out a pretty big drop off so the kids really couldn't play in the water much. But we still had fun. Kids played in the sand, found lots of shells and we buried the kids legs and made "robot legs", which was really funny. Came back to the campsite and played in the pool for well over an hr. I sat on the side. It was so windy and COLD, I couldn't bring myself to even get in. We had spaghetti for dinner and went to check out the other end of the campsite which ended at the intercoastal waterway, w/ a nice fishing dock. There was also a restaurant w/ ppl eating right out on the water and i guess when the tide is out, there was a little beach area too, so kids were wading in the water and messing around. Very cool place. Got some cool sunset pics down there.
The next day, yesterday, we found a better beach that you could actually drive on and it was dredged so the kids could go in the water and all. Tons of ppl and families were there. The wind/waves were still crazy, but it was so nice. Evan met a boy named Dillon and played horseshoes and velcro mitt ball w/ him. He was really patient w/ Evan and Miles both. It was really cute. Came back and the kids started acting like heathens so we threw them in bed for a nap and they fell out for around 2 hrs. R went fishing down by the dock and i read and tried to sleep to no avail. R came back so late w/ the car that I couldn't cook dinner, so we decided to go into Pizzalley's in old town. It was really good and it was so great to be back in my fave part of the city. I just love it there w/ all it's old charm and ppl watching opportunities. You see some crazy stuff there.
We got up today and packed up camp, which seemed to take forever, and then all went and changed to go swimming at the pool. We were there for nearly 2 hrs and Evan is a real fish now, swimming underwater the whole time. He still can't dive for things--he literally can't figure out how to swim down?? and we tired them out really good. Their eyes were so bloodshot it wasn't funny. We drove home (3 hrs) w/ me reading the entire time w/out stopping. Getting into the really good parts of Pride and Prejudice. I'm enjoying it so much. There are the little dull parts here and there, but it's been so good. Can't wait to read Jane Eyre next.
Well, must get some good, uninterrupted sleep tonight. NO going to bed late. My attitude is not great and I need to get it in order by tomorrow. And i need to lose about 5 lbs from not eating so hot and having meals planned for our trip. ugh. I'll upload some pics later.
