So I just got home last night around midnight from our GA trip. Had a blast. Stayed up way too late, watched a lot of movies, went to a lot of orchards, ate too much junk. Wow. Just a lot of fun. But, I'm glad to be home again and get back in the normal swing of things. I love being home and doing school, cooking homecooked meals, tucking my kids into their regular beds and not a pack n play. And I love my backyard:) Although, it doesn't have a mountain view here. Got home and went thru my mail. Came across Runner's World magazine. I subscribed again. I love that mag. Just inspires me so much and I can dream about doing all the fun races they show in there. This issue was dedicated to the normal everyday runners, the subscribers, and had a pic on the front of about 6 or so runners, all ages, and with different backgrounds and reasons as to why they ran. I got caught up reading all the different stories, shed some tears, got some new inspiration. One of the biggest articles was about a guy named Ben Davis, and he got notoriety by posting a youtube video about how he began running and lost 120 lbs and shed not only weight but his depression as well. The pictures along w/ the Coldplay song did me in and I was blubbering like a baby watching it. His blog is here: http://bendoeslife.tumblr.com/. He's done like 7 marathons and 2 ironmans now, or something ridiculous along those lines. Started out by his brother signing him up for a local 5k. I was reading parts of his blog and found a post he wrote called "Why we run" and thought I'd like to post my own. So, here goes:
I run because I can, while others physically cannot.
I run because it makes me feel invincible.
I run because it's cheaper than taking antidepressants.
I run because it airs my brain out.
I run because I need quiet.
I run because I love to enjoy God's creation.
I run because I know it's my duty to upkeep the temple God gave me.
I run because I get tired of the drama around me.
I run because I love to pass people.
I run because beating my previous time matters to me.
I run because people have laughed at me and told me I wasn't a runner.
I run because it stomps on the fear inside me.
I run because it exhilirates me and makes me feel alive.
I run because it makes me happy and connected to others.
I run because I feel a part of the community of runners.
I run because I want to be a good example of health to my boys.
I run because I feel ten times better than if I were just sitting on the couch taking up air.
I run because it calms me down.
I run because I love it.
I RUN!
