Tuesday happenings & Book reviews

So Randall decided he could take Miles with him to work today. I was so glad bc he was being a big crybaby this morning;) He is still fighting the cold and snots and was just in a sour mood. Everything E did made him cry. And when the crying was worn out, he'd fake cry consistently. Finally had to tap his boot w/ the wooden spoon. He didn't like that too much. But I've been blessed...no boot tappin' in FOREVER> so once today was just to make him know I was serious. So me and E did school after he left. He reviewed all his verses (9 I think total now), and we had a good Bible lesson. Then we did school, which was a lot of sitting and eye glazing on his part, listening 1/2 heartedly and me yelling too much. UGH! I hate that when I do that...mostly only once a month I get too loud;) not good. But he finished off well. Learned more about the 20's family, learned how to write the letter K, and learned how to do "o'clocks" both ways. He is such a smarty.

Then we jumped in the car and went to the library to get my new book. I'd just finished this:
which was a very heavy read. My Mom had told me about an interview with her and the book sounded interesting. Blew my mind how a child can so "easily" be brain washed into believing things. She got kidnapped on her way to school one morning in 1991. She is 2 yrs younger than I am. Crazy bc my Mom used to let us walk to school every morning when I was in 1st-3rd grades. Not sure many would allow that nowadays.

I was in the middle of this book:
before I got a call that my "Stolen Life" book had come in. I'd gotten this book at a thrift store for a buck and had really enjoyed the movie, albeit INtense!! I watched it once and then made Mom watch it with me bc it just blew my mind. The book is very long and has tiny words, but just takes you to another time and place when thinking was much different. I was enjoying it, but it was LONG...I sometimes need a book that has more timely satisfaction of finishing. Once books get past like 400 pgs, I start to get anxious. The Twilight books were really rough at the end. Reading them all the night thru just to see how they were gonna end!

A book I really loved and wouldn't mind owning was this:
J.B. had told me to read this and I put it off for a long time, but once I got going, couldn't put it down. The author's writing style is great and hilarious too. I was rolling several times. It's about a tribe of Tarahumara Indians in the Copper Canyons of Mexico who can run hundreds of miles w/ little more than some old tire rubber strapped to their feet. Also talks about the evolution of the running shoes and how currently runners have more injuries now, than back in the 60's and 70's when running shoes were not as high tech as the shoes now. He also went into a lot of the great runners and how they got their starts and some of their great races. It was so inspiring and just made me wanna RUN. Also gave me so many great pointers on running form and technique.

But my all-time favorite book was:
which was written by the same author who wrote "Seabiscuit, an American Legend", which was fabulous. Laura just makes you feel like you are right there, experiencing everything firsthand. The title sums it up really. But the ending shocked me and  touched me like no book ever has before. I want this book in my library...maybe once it gets off the best sellers chart I can snag it off amazon or a yard sale for cheaper.

Well, those are some of the books I've read and have enjoyed. I'm drawn more to real life stories I guess, but love fictional books as well, that take you to another time and place. I need something more shallow and fun to read, like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants or something;)  I almost picked up Breaking Dawn again to freshen my memories before I watched the flick this week, but finally the library has been calling me with the books I reserved online. It's been like 2 months now I think, and they are just now finally calling me. Moneyball proved to be boring to read. Who am I kidding? I know nothing about baseball or stats, so the movie was def more interesting on that count. Today I picked up this book:
which looked interesting too. It's about Ernest Hemingway's 1st wife Hadley when they 1st got married and moved to Paris in the wild 20's. Sounds like an interesting read, so we'll see how it goes.

Well, better get my spinach lasagna going and decide if I'm gonna do my 5 miles or not today. I need to do at least 3...My legs are super tweaked from my 9 miles on Sunday. Namely my left leg by my tib/fib attachment...Thinking I'll just go back to my regular stride and see if the pain level slows down some. Trying to also decide if I'm going to do my final long run this coming Sunday...not sure I should do that much and be so sore all week before my race on the following Sunday??? So...just thinking and trying to make the best decision.

Happy Tuesday:)
